Le Matin de la Nuit/Le Ballet Mecanique’s was inspired by Georges Antheil’s Ballet Mecanique. The mechanisms of its hand-fabricated timer, visibly tripping off a motor, buzzer, light, and music box crank, serves as an analog (vs. digital) means to create a repetitive choreography. Due to the interplay between the timer and the positions of the devices it sets off, the work’s script repeats; however, it is never exactly the same – not unlike the non-binary reality of life’s daily grind.
